TRAILER BOATS Excellence in Design: TAHOE 225
TAHOE 225
Big-water boating requires a bigwater hull — and Tahoe’s new 225 deck boat fits the bill nicely. But hold on. Deck boats are meant to carry a crowd, and typically feature mod-V designs that aid planing and performance with heavy loads; the downside is that they’re not always the softest-riding hulls. So how does one figure this new Tahoe is a candidate for big water? Easy. This decker rides on a deep-V bottom with 21 degrees of transom deadrise — a full 3 to 5 degrees more than most deck boats — and this bodes well for your back when the waves kick up.
In essence, this is a bowrider hull with a deck boat layout, and it stands as one of today’s more progressive examples of the trend toward “deckabouts.” There’s more. Vents in the chines induce air under the hull for good high-speed performance, and sponsons at the stern make the boat rock-solid at rest — and help the boat get on plane without exertion. Ultimately, it’s a combination of design elements that’s pushing the envelope of deck boat potential.
